7 nights/8 days on safari, including 6 magical nights on safari in 2 different parts of Kenya, this itinerary is best used from July to September to better your chances of seeing the great migration.
Day 1: Arriving into Kenya via Nairobi where you will receive a VIP meet & greet which will assist you through customs, most flights will land in Nairobi late afternoon/early evening. You will be greeted by your guide and transferred to the Karen Gables. This quite lodge is set on the outskirts of Nairobi and with its Cape Dutch architecture it is the perfect place to relax after a long journey. You will spend your first night here.
Day 2: After breakfast at the lodge, you will have a vehicle and a guide at your disposal for the morning in Nairobi. Things that you could do while exploring the city are a visit to the giraffe centre and a visit to the David Sheldrick elephant sanctuary; Karen Blixen Museum and see where she got the inspiration to write Out Of Africa.
After lunch you will make your way towards the airport where you’ll board a scheduled flight and head north towards Lewa Conservancy.
Sprawling over the rolling plains north of Mt Kenya, Lewa Wildlife Conservancy is a prolific wildlife conservancy. Lewa conservancy is a special piece of wilderness on the African continent, it is one of the original conservancy’s in Africa. You will be privy to some of the most spectacular wildlife viewing that Kenya has to offer: lion, leopard and jackal thrive on the rich diversity of prey that inhabits the area. The Wildlife Conservancy is home to the largest concentration of Grevy’s zebra in the world, and its range of habitats attracts diverse birdlife and hosts over 200 Black and White rhino.
Day 2 – 5: Featuring large tented bedrooms with verandahs and full en-suite bathrooms, Lewa Safari camp offers authentic comfort for its visitors. This unique and exclusive retreat offers privileged access to 65,000 acres of private protected wilderness. What we love about this camp is that Lewa Safari Camp is the only tourist facility within the Conservancy that is owned by the Conservancy. Profits and conservancy fees generated by the camp are reinvested directly into the conservation and community efforts of Lewa Wildlife Conservancy.
After a great 3 days experiencing everything that Lewa has to offer, you will begin to head south towards a place that needs no introduction, the Masai Mara or as we all refer to it, the Mara! Arguably the worlds most famous game reserve.
Here you will be able to experience one of the greatest wilderness specials on earth, the great migration. The great migration is the movement of vast numbers of wildebeest, accompanied by large numbers of zebra, and smaller numbers of Grant’s gazelle, Thomson’s gazelle, eland and impala. At this time of the year, the large herd is situated in the northern Serengeti and the Mara, where the Mara River provides the migration with its most serious obstacle. Watching the frantic herds of the wildebeest migration crossing the Mara River can be very spectacular; there are often scenes of great panic and confusion.
Day 5 – 8: Safaris in the in the Mara are indescribable, get out before the sunrise to watch the wilderness wake up around you, drive along the famous Mara River and see some of the biggest crocodiles in the world. While checking along the river hopefully you will start to see large build up of wildebeest as prepare to risk their life to cross the river. The game viewing and the potential to see animals will seem endless and with the influx of prey species present at this time year, the amount of predators present is incredible. Here you’ll be able to book a balloon safari where you will watch the sunrise from a hot air balloon as you glide over the Mara. A trip to visit a local Masai tribe is a rich cultural experience and if you just feel like relaxing by the pool, over looking the plains of the Masai Mara with a cold beer, that can be done as well.
Day 8: Enjoy a breakfast at camp and take in the final few views of the sand river and Masai Mara. Head to the airstrip and then back to Nairobi where you will check into your international flight and begin the journey home.
This beautiful lodge is a great place to relax, unwind and soak up some African sun before making your way back home. Beautiful and with the hospitality you would have come to expect in Kenya, another massive plus is that it is easy to get to. We can’t recommend Majlis Resort enough as the perfect ending to your Kenyan safari.
Designed to reflect Lamu’s fascinating blend of influences, the hotel features superbly appointed suites that combine contemporary comforts with local tradition. Presented in a timelessly elegant style and set amidst indigenous trees and plants, the suites are spacious, with traditionally high, beamed ceilings, large windows and open terraces that boast spectacular views of the beach, the lush gardens or sparkling swimming pools. Each suite is constructed using white coral blocks, with doors and furniture hand carved according to local traditions. Just a light, well put together room that will make relaxing easy after a long day on the beach.
The Majlis hotel is a privately owned luxury beach hotel on Manda Island in the Lamu archipelago, off Kenya’s Northern Coast. It is one of the most unique luxury resorts in Kenya. With a superb beachfront location and breathtaking views over the bay and Lamu Island, it offers the perfect setting and the ideal accommodation for barefoot luxury and informal pampering on your trip to Kenya.
